Are you carrying some extra weight on that once svelte
body?
Do you know what that extra weight is doing to your
knees?
If you belong to the Arthritis Society and attend their
training sessions and Self Help workshops, you will have learned a few things
about your knees.
Your knees are a very important part of your body and
they carry the brunt of every activity we endeavour. Think about it. When you
want to bend down, your knees have to bend. When you want to walk, your knees
have to bend. When you want to climb stairs... knees again.
It is not just your feet that keep your body in balance,
but your knees working in tandem with your feet to maintain balance. It does not
matter what activity we do, without our knees, we are pretty much physically
handicapped.
There are some statistics available to us now about how
our weight gain affects our knees.
Did you know that for every pound of weight you gain, it
results in pressure on your knees. Did you know how much stress and pressure
results on your knees for every pound of weight gain?
The actual statistics are from the Arthritis Society. For
every pound of weight gained, pressure is increased on the knees by ten times.
In other words, if you are 40 pounds overweight, you are
carrying 400 pounds of stress on your knees. This makes it not only more
challenging to move around, but can cause damage to the joints as a result of
carrying the extra weight over long periods of time.
It happens so gradually that we do not realize that our
sore knees are actually caused by our extra weight.
Imagine that!
If you are looking for a way to release some weight and
thus relieve pressure on your knees, let's chat.
